Peppernuts or Pfeffernusse Cookies

My Grandma made these cookies a Christmas Tradition. If ever there was a cook, and should anything I make ever turn out perfect....It has to be her genes being passed down. She made the tastiest treats! This is one of those recipes that taste like home to me, but they have a little different flavor. Try them and they may become your new christmas cookie tradition.

Peppernuts

1 1/2 Cup Molasses
1 1/2 Cup Sugar
1/2 Cup Butter
2 Eggs
1/2 Margarine
1 Tsp. Cloves
2 Tsp. Cinnamon
1 Tsp. Allspice
1 Tsp. Anise
1 Cup Chopped Nuts (optional)
2 Tsp. Soda - dissolved in 1/2 Cup Hot Water

Mix all above ingredients together in a large bowl. Add enough flour to make a stiff dough. Approximately,  9 Cups of flour. Roll dough into long logs about 1/2 inch diameter. Cut in 1/2 inch pieces and place on cookie sheet. Bake 7-10 minutes in a 350 degree oven. Cool and store in a air tight container. Enjoy!
